Plumleaf The Goblin
A Short Story
'Oh, I can't believe it!' Plumleaf's mother fluttered her delicate green hands before her teary eyes. 'My son, a member of The Dark Lord's Mindless Horde! Oh, I'm so proud of you, Plumleaf!'
Plumleaf the Goblin comes from a long line of minions. His father was a minion, his father's father was a minion, and so on into the dimmest mists of recorded history; and if there's one thing minions don't do, it's quit. At least, that was the case until Plumleaf quarreled with his boss, left his job, and moved back in with his parents.
But everyone needs an income, and so this disillusioned young goblin must embark on an epic quest to find new employment. A quest that will take him through barren wastelands, up dragon-ruled mountains, and into the very heart of enemy territory.

The Just Desserts
A Short Story
Daniel stood on an earthy path at the gates of a bustling village, surrounded by lush fields and gentle hills. All around him were players and npcs dressed in the most outlandish clothes and preposterous armours that mind could conceive, carrying absurdly large weapons, and accompanied by small bears, giant squirrels, orbs of fire, floating swords, and a thousand other non-playable allies both useful and jocular.
Daniel Flynn has been through some hard times. The past twenty-years of his life, in fact, have been little more than hard times. But now he has a new job, a new flat, and a new attitude. It's only appropriate that he be introduced to a new world: the fantastical and terrible world of Shanawan.

Mr Macabre
A Short Story
It was in the thick of this final rush that a femme fatale with dark lipstick and a tall pointed hat presented herself at the counter, with two or three of those rubbish bestsellers that are always clogging the charts in Irish bookshops. We exchanged the usual small-talk as I silently judged her awful taste in literature; then I, looking distractedly into the till as I counted out her change, asked:
‘Would you like a bag for all that?’
To which she replied:
‘I’m going to replace you with a changeling.’
